Sailed yesterday, and think I forgot to close the sink/fridge thru-hull drain (the one under the stove.) I am on top of closing the head thru-hull after every sail, but this time I threw a bunch of ice in the fridge to keep drinks and food cold and opened that one up to drain the water.
I am an hour and a half away from the boat. Can this wait until next weekend, or should I be very concerned about calling someone and having them check it for me?
did you notice any leaks or water around the trough-hull lately? if it's surroundings are always very dry every time you arrive at the boat and after each sail, i doubt a couple of days would matter much, i'm a worrier about those things and an open through-hull for a couple of days (even a month) wouldn't worry me
Hmmm.... If there HAD been a leaky icebox/sink rubber hose and/or connection below the waterline YESTERDAY, seems to me that by now it would have shown up. And someone would have called to discuss how your mast is sticking up out of the water. Rest easy. And remember to close it next time.
Thanks for the responses. No, no ongoing water issues.
I'll call the marina guy and see if he can't go get the key (located in the other marina across the bay - long story) and get it done for me. In any case I'll be up there on Saturday next weekend.
When I first got this boat I never closed the thru-hull valves. The PO left them open. Now after sailing in high wind and heeling over where the lake water would get in the cold box and the head over flowed-thank goodness it was not used-I now keep them closed unless used. I open them at the slip let everything drain then close. Leave the cabinet doors open until done.
