OK, stupid question for many, for sure. But I have a tall rig C250 and on my main about the distance up on the luff where the reef cringles are is a length of about 3 feet of line attached to the sail and the line has with sail slugs attached...can someone tell me what is the purpose of this? I feed all the slugs into the mast slot, but don't really know what this length of line does. Thanks very much. Sorry, rookie sailor on a small freshwater lake.
A mast gate eliminates the need for it, but you need a slug in that spot so if you remove it, you should attach a normal fixed slug there.
FWIW, I also attached a mast gate, but just left the jack line as-is. My purpose in installing the mast gate was to allow for a 2nd reef if I ever need it.
Cool! Yes, I figured that...I'll re do it. I do have a second reef on the tall rig, so that's more or less your first reef point, so I probaby will use it. Thank you VERY much for the quick and clarifying response. MJ
