8 hp Mercury 4-stroke engine for sale. Long shaft, electric start, in-line fuel filter on the gas line between the fuel tank and the engine, ~300 hours on the engine (total), just tuned. $1,100 - - In Spokane, WA The motor runs great, and looks almost new. Reason for selling is that I've switched over to an all-electric Torqeedo 24 Volt DC motor. Bill Holcomb - C25 Snickerdoodle #4839
Bill...if you could, I'd like to see the Torqeedo system on Snickerdoodle. If you could start a thread with pictures, costs, and performance results.....that would be great. I considered it when I repowered last spring with a SailPro, so I'd really like to see how you've implemented it and the results you're getting.
Hi Joe, Check out my blog http://barnaclebillholcomb.blogspot.com In April this year I describe the installation of the Torqeedo. In addition to the initial install, I also purchased the extra long wiring harness. I have not had to use it... However, if the primary batteries get "used up", I can re-configure the two Group 24 house batteries for an additional 24 volt backup system. Last week, Kathy and I (along with seven other boats) sailed around Lake Pend Oreille for six days. We sailed and motored more than 250 miles. Last Saturday there was no wind and we had a 25 nm cruise ahead of us. I set the Torqeedo for a speed of 3 knots and eight hours later we were "home". Next time, I know that I'll be able to also use the tiller pilot (already wired to the house batteries) - so, that I don't have to steer Snickerdoodle all the way. I do have other questions....that's why I thought a thread on it would be great for the forum...and for archival purposes when someone searches on going electric or a Torqeedo.....rather than hijack your for sale thread. Since you've done it and have actual experience....
BTW....you can also try Craigslist for your motor. I sold my Yammy 5HP in just a couple of days. They go fast when priced right.
