Last week I brought the boat home to do some work on it. One of the items was replacing the plastic in the forward hatch. (Old one cracked) Yesterday it rained hard for a long time and I was able to check for leaks. I got lucky because the rain stayed outside and I found no water intrusion. Checked the entire boat with good results.

I purchased the lexan from the local plastics supply house. I removed the frame and old plastic and used the old plastic for a pattern to cut and drill the new one. After cleaning up the frame and gaskets (acetone) I used epoxy to glue the gasket to the frame. I held the gasket in place with masking tape until cured-24 hours. I placed the lexan in with small spacers to center it in the frame then clamp in place and remove the blocks. I used Black automotive silicone adhesive to glue it in. I used masking tape to cover the lexan and alum frame for a clean edge. The plastic parts of the alum latch that went through the plastic were in nearly un-usable condition so I machined some new ones from alum. The alum pieces are installed with thin Teflon washers and a rubber seal I duplicated the installation with a test piece and it is setting outside as a test to see how it holds up. Previous to this I had removed the entire hatch and resealed to the deck.
I have been chasing a couple of leaks since I got the boat-I think I finally have them fixed. The other one that took some time to find was the pop-top to cabin on the starboard side. I think the companion way would leak in the wind/rain from aft.
