My traveler cam cleats are only barely functional, i.e. the cams once open stay open until manually closed. I've tried lubricating the cams but it does not really help. Can they be serviced, or should they just be replaced?
I had the same problem. I took them apart (carefully, there are springs in there), cleaned out all the spider webs and used a Teflon-type spray lube. They worked like new. That was about three years ago, and they're still working fine.
Lubing usually works but the springs can fatigue after years and new cleats are in order. I relocated mine so they open toward the bow instead of to the side. There is a little more line friction but the ease in operation is worth it.
