Ok, so our Z-ray dink is literally falling apart!

The Plastic rubbing strip around it has peeled off, the same with the strip along the keel.

Before I go out and get a new dink, does PVC glue (like that for PVC piping) work on PVC dinks?

This article might be helpful: Repairing PVC Inflatables

However, it doesn't say what kind of glue to use.

These guys are recommending Vyna-bond, which I've had pretty good luck with on PVC inflatables, but not a dinghy like yours, but cheaper Intex rafts. PVC/Hypalon glue

Hey Paul,
Do you recall my dingy from the BEER cruise? Its a Baltik that I bought new off eBay in 2005. Its 7 years old now and not one issue, no leaks, no nothing, good as new. We used it a few weeks ago on a trip to Cape Lockout.
I just did a eBay search for "Baltic Boat" and he is still selling them, in case you're looking.

PVC pipe glue is rigid after curing, so it wouldn't work well on a flexible inflatable.

Thanks Tom: Yes, Peggy is suggesting we cut out losses and get a better dink!

Dave, thanks for that info about the PVC glue.

Costco was selling a Zodiac inflatable for about $600-$700 a while back, but since it's past August, you're far more likely to find xmas stuff than "summer" stuff now. They're still selling a larger one online for $1k although it's made of Decitex which is still PVC I think? In your environment, you might want to bite the bullet & get a Hypalon dinghy just because it stands up to weather much better than PVC. My Avon is a 94 and still looks pretty good and has no leaks (since I fixed the valve leaks earlier this summer).

The cheaper Zodiac dinghies (like our Zoom) are still PVC. Defender regularly has the smallest Zoom (which is what we have) for around $500. It is a great little dinghy, the small size fits two adults easily, but it packs away fairly small and weighs around 50lbs. This seemed like a big advantage for a small boat like ours compared to the more normal roughly 10' long and 90lbs inflatables. It also pumps up faster since it is smaller.

On our dinette C-25 it fits into the way back of the quarterberth or under the dinette table (when lowered) for long term storage.

With 3 adults it does get low in the water and someone will probably get a little wet.

It'll probably be $479 during their fall sale.

For the extra money, get a real zodiac... I got 10 years out of mine before I replaced it. By the time you patch the heck out of it, you could have bought a nice Dink. That slime stuff works too, but only for so long.
