I received an email re covering your boat with a tarp and tennis ball. I thought it was a great idea and may have been talked about here before, but I wanted to share the idea anyway. Here is the LINK. Steve A

The tennis balls will work fine, the jug of water won't unless you live where it does not freeze. I tried the gallon jugs full of water and when I visited the boat after a freeze, the water had frozen, expanded the jugs, split the jugs and the water all drained out when the ice melted.
Use 2 liter bottles, and fill them 3/4 the way, no splitting. Works great. Used it on my pool last year. Unfortunately they aren't impervious to PUPPIES, they seem to think they are chew toys (10 week old puppies).
