I have a 1980 Catalina 25 and it needs allot of love. The gel coat has been patched in many places over the years and looks like a teenager with pimples. I have tried polishing which has only shined up the zits.
Has anyone completely repainted there boat and did you spray or used the roller and tipping method.

I have repainted mine and I used the roller and tip method. It had been damaged and painted before I bought it due to a pretty severe collision with a dock, I am told. Paint looks good until it starts to chip. Definitely better than a pimpled teenager.

I just gel coated the topsides of my entire boat. Boot stripe to the stripe under the rub rail. Sprayed gel coat & duratec clear gloss addative. came out real nice. I have a lot of sanding to do yet. The boat had a lot of scars and some repairs from the previous owner. It wasn't as hard as I was expecting

What did you do about the non-skid surfaces? I'd imagine gel coat would be rather slick underfoot with Docksider boat shoes or even rubber-soled nylon water shoes.

Somebody else can tell us what it means in the USN--I'm guessing it's the decks and above... not sure.

I am told kiwigrip does a nice job on the deck, as for topsides, I'd like to hear the cost/advantages/disadvantages versus painting. More importantly the weight added, and how it looks.
