If you are thinking about going down the ICW,taking into consideration Time, Where would you recommend Launching from?
Chesapeake? My brother in law has a place on the Rappahannock river.
We would also need to obviously leave the Tahoe and Trailer to go South. Not sure of how long we would be gone. We may go out for two weeks or 6 weeks than come back drag the boat back to Lake Erie and go back to our stopping point and start again. Thoughts? BTW MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy New Year.

Depends on what time of year. Icw to me starts in Norfolk VA. The Cheaseapake is a nice playground too. But the icw is cool. Do the dismal swamp... I can't because of my draft, but I've heard amazing stories.

I live at Mile Marker 0 on the ICW. If I can be of assistance, please let me know. We have a free boat ramp nearby and a public dock on the ICW. This would allow you to launch, dock here and possibly tranport truck/trailer back to your brothers. I can offer a ride to/from there. You might be able to store your truck/trailer at one of the local marinas here(for a fee, I'm sure). Email me if I can help

What is your draft? You should be able to do the swamp canal...the minimum depth is 6 1/2 feet.

Thanks for the offer of Help, We have a swing keel, and draw 5' when it is all the way down. We will not be doing this now but our idea is to do this at some point. We have sailed/motored the ICW on an Irwin 34 out of St Simons Island,GA down to Jacksonville and up to Savannah. We would like to do this on our boat though. Exactly where is Mile 0 located? We have a tall rig and bridges should not be a problem. I would guess we would start in the early spring and again when time got close to running out for my wifes vacation we would bring the boat back to Lake Erie-Home port. We have chartered on the Chesapeake out of Annapolis Landing Marina. I am not sure if we would not want to go farther south to bypass some of the difficult/open water areas? Thoughts? BTW The Name Dismal Swamp sound awesome.. I have read stories about that!

Mile Marker Zero is between Norfolk/Portsmouth Va. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AICW) or "The Ditch" as many refer to it is generally considered to start in Norfolk, VA (mile marker 0) and run south to Miami, FL. Red Buoy 36 is the designator for this mile marker.

My C&C 39 draws 6.5.... No tides there either. You run aground, you are stuck.

We Ran Aground in The Irwin 34 a few times..
If you have never run aground you are either not teling the truth or you are not a sailer.. as someone once said
We are Not in the lets go tomorrow stage with this trip BUT want to put together a plan. Any advantage to start at Mile 0, other than the satisfaction? We May start in November also from a midpoint and go north or south. Just trying to get feedback..Opinions.. Lots of choices up in the air right now-especially that the world has not ended on Friday..:)

No real advantage, though it might allow you to get a little further south than starting from the Bay. I guess it depends on where you want go and how long you will have to do it.
