I've got the hankering to rebuild the manual bilge pump. I've heard the screws are a bunch of fun removing. Any other help you guys could suggest I look out for???

Sorry.. no pictures of it yet so I really can't be any more specific.

I guess I'll remove it and tape over the hole for the rebuild.

It is pretty trivial, there is no reason to take it home vs just doing it on the boat. I think it took about 30 minutes.

I rebuilt mine last year, (several times:) Pay attention when disassembling to get the check valves/flaps oriented properly AND in the right order. Otherwise, very simple.

I've never done it, so I guess I should. Stupid question, but if it's just taking it apart and putting it back together, how is this helping? I must be missing something important.
