Anyone upgrading their mainsail and have a decent std rig mainsail
they no longer need?

I have a c25 tall rig and want to move my boom up to allow more room
for the bimini top.

Thanks,
Warren

A C-25 SR main will lift your boom a full 3' higher at full hoist, which is pretty high. You might want to try some of the used sail places like Bacon for one with something like a 26' luff (20" shorter than yours). The Capri 25 main luff is 26'5", which might be ideal. Check Wayzatta Yacht Club, where their largest fleet is, and our Capri 25 forum.

You might look at this new one:

<i>Main Sails 24'7" 26' 9'6" New Coastal Cruising 49080 <b>$564 </b> New Catalina 25 </i>
Atlantic Sail Traders

Seems like a good price for a new sail. I don't have any connection to this place and in fact have never purchased anything from them. I got my last set of sails from North Sails Direct.

I have a well used main I'd be willing to part with.
Make me an offer.

Thanks for the info guys. Davy J a new main for $564 sounds tempting!
Bud - Sent you an email.

Dave Bristle - Having the boom raised 3 ft, are there any disadvantages to that other than it may harder to reach?

This will be my 2nd season with the boat, and this year I'm going for more "user friendly" mods.
The boom on a tall rig is just way too short for me.

There will be a lot of casual cruising with inexperienced guests this year. I'm also moving all lines aft, and adding a roller furler.

Why do you have to raise your boom by 3'? Maybe a foot or two is enough to get you the space you want for your head, or your bimini, or whatever, yet still low enough to be able to reach the boom for reefing, flaking, etc. Then the top of your standard rig sail will be a little below the top of your mast, just like when you're reefed, so no big deal.

As others suggested, you could also seek out a different sail that is only a foot or so shorter than your current one, so it would reach the top of your mast and give you better light wind performance.

But don't assume that a standard rig sail would require you to raise the boom by the whole 3' - you could raise it less.

You don't mention your vintage. (It can be useful to put that plus the rig and keel in the "Signature" in your Profile, as many have done here.) Is your gooseneck fixed on the mast, or does it slide in the slot? If the latter, you need to be concerned with the position of the opening in the slot--you certainly don't want the gooseneck slipping out! If it's fixed, you'd need to decide whether to move it or just have the sail not reach the top (as if it were reefed). 3' higher might put it above the opening for the slugs, in which case you'd need to cut a new one, and it might make some other tasks difficult.

It doesn't have to be 3' above. I originally thought using a std rig main would be the easiest option. I suppose I could have the local sail shop cut it down as well
or find another sail like a capri 25 that was mentioned.

I have an 84' C-25 TR/SK (I'm the new owner of dmpilc's boat Recess) out of Nashville TN (Old Hickory Lake)

The gooseneck slides. my plan was to buy the C-25 MastGater Sail Track Gate form CD. I believe that's all I'd need to do.

Minnie's also has a few hundred mainsails at bargain prices! They're sorted by size on that web page. You could choose just the right size for what you want, it seems.

I have a fairly new main I need to sell. It's about two years old and the boat was totaled when it got lifted by a drawbridge. The sail has an oversize loose foot (whole length of the boom)and roach and I'm willing to sell for $450 plus shipping. If interested email me at tcurran32766 at gmail dot com.

Well, I went out to the boat this weekend and did some measuring. After further review, I think I'm going to use my main, and just add a custom reef point for the extra clearance
I need. I appreciate everyone's help.

Hey Warren, a second set of reef points about 1.5 ft. below the current ones should give you the height you are looking for. Note that you 'll have to set them above the cunningham and the flattening reef, and that it will raise the boom up above the mast gate. The original reef points are almost 3 ft above the foot, and that's about how much taller your main is than a standard main. I went through the same thought process as you are now, and decided to just reef the existing main when I wanted more height. For the reef points you are considering, contact Deb Pincus at TC Sails, www.tcsails.com. They are in Mt. Juliet, not far from you. Phone # is 615-847-4777.
Enjoyed talking to you a short while back.

Thanks David. I'm actually meeting Deb tomorrow at the boat. I installed my roller furler this weekend and she's coming out to measure my rig so she can
modify the 135. BTW, the 135 looks brand new. It doesn't even look like it was taken out of the bag!

I enjoyed talking to you as well. As soon as I get the boat set up the way I want I'll invite you over for a sail.
Also, If you guys need an extra crew member for any up coming races please let me know!

That 135 should look brand new. I only used it 4-5 times, if that many. I meant to leave it out of the listing and sell it separately, but forgot to do it. My loss, your gain. I hope the mod to the furler works and look forward to sailing with you soon. I'll keep you in mind if a crew slot opens up.
