My C-25 will live most of its remaining life in North Texas lakes, however if I get my tandem trailer situation resolved, I would like to take it to Galveston once or twice a year and sail out into the gulf/ocean. Since most of my time will be here in No TX fresh water, do any of you have a LONG-LASTING anti foul paint recommendation. Would like to have it last as long as possible between haul-oouts.
What do you use?
Catalina 25, Hull #779, Built 1978, FK/SR "Miss Natalie"
Catalina 25, Hull #971, Built 1979, SK/SR,"Sea Legs"
"if we get lost, we'll just pull in somewhere and ask directions."
$258-359 a gallon and less protection... << The VC Offshore lacks the biocides to protect from soft growth. >> You are recommending a racing paint??
Anyhoo... the recommendation I got at Lake Lanier was vc17.. << When i say VC 17 this includes VC 17, VC 17m, and VC 17 M Extra. >>
FYI, we lived on the island and sailed in Galveston for 12 years. You will need to launch under the Kemah bridge. It is fine for trailers and free. The only trailer launch in Galv. is on Offatts Bayou on 61st St. but is too shallow for fixed keels. If you have a swing you may be ok. I'm pretty sure it has been rebuilt since Ike. Galveston Y. Basin has some slips for visitors, and Moody Gardens has transient slips. The marina at The Landing was destroyed by Ike. Let me know if you have any questions about that area.

I've thought about pulling out there so if you have any info please send it along and maybe save me a day of sailing if the ramo is no good.
I'm not familiar with VC-17 Offshore, but for a low maintenance bottom, I don't think VC-17m is the right paint. I put it on my boat last year.
The manufacturer recommends a new coat every year.
It wears off leading edges in one season.
Its anti-fouling properties are not been particularly amazing (on my boat on an inland lake in Virginia).
I'm not saying VC-17 isn't awesome. It makes your boat fast and you can haul, power wash, paint, and relaunch your boat in an afternoon because VC-17m can be relaunched after 15 minutes.
But if you don't want to haul your boat every year, it may not be the paint for you.
What does your local boatyard recommend? They probably have a lot of experience with your waters.
Sea Hawk Sharkskin (hard) and AF-33 (soft) were recommended to the current owner of my Catalina 25 for a similar scenario. The boat is kept on Lake Union (freshwater), but is sailed out into salt water. It may spend 3 or 4 weeks on the salt water this summer. We got the same recommendations from both the boatyard and the store where we bought the paint.
It's only been ~8 weeks since the boat was hauled, so I can't say how well it's working.
