Looking to mount throttle/forward-reverse controls on Edson helm on my Catalina 250WK (2004). I have a Honda 9.9 st'd shaft OB. Where do I start to research? with Honda or Edson?
You may recall that I was interested in this, but ultimately decided that the view was not worth the climb. I can get good access to wheel, throttle, and shifter by sitting astride the wheel on the starboard side.
Here's a prior thread on the topic. I actually contacted the owners of the boat I was referring to, and they told me that theirs was installed by a knowledgeable Honda dealer. They didn't know anything about how to do the install:
Just an FYI, I have an older honda 15 with edson controls described on pedestal on my 2002. I had a problem shifting with these controls having to hold on to base of shifter with left hand & shift with right. When I took the compass off I found that the linkage underneath (black plastic cover) under compass was cracked from linkage of shifter wearing against it:( Hence the difficult shifting. Probably a poor install by dealer originally. My engine is mounted on a bracket think its the garelick?? Also screw holding lever to control arm snapped just as I put a line over at slip probably from metal fatigue:(
