Apparently my title is really wrong, but I have no idea what the year of manufacture for my boat is. It's a C-25, #245 . Is there a registry of the boat numbers and what year they were built?
Appears to be a 1977 model. If you can provide the HIN (VIN) number off the title we can verify that for you. Check the "Owners" link to the left of the page.
Also check the Hull Identification Number etched into the glelcoat just below the rub-rail on the starboard side of the transom. The last three characters are the <i>Model</i> year and the month (starting with August = A, Sept. = B, etc.) A boat built in December, 1977 might read M78E, and was sold as a '78 model.

That can't be right. First, the Z should be a Y for Catalina Yachts. (CTZ is Connecticut Homemade Boats.)
That format was begun in 1984, and yours means the boat was built in July, 1994, and is a '94 model. (A=Jan.) We've yet to hear of a C-25 built that late--they stopped in 1991. Hull 4603 was built in 19<b>8</b>4, and according to our Owners records is a SR/FK that was owned by a guy here in Groton, CT. Are we getting closer?
Here's our largest listing of C-25s and their owners--not updated for a couple of years now. We have another more current listing with fewer entries.
Are you in Connecticut? CTZ is used by the State of Connecticut to identify a homemade boat. Maybe the owner had to go a round with the state of Connecticut and that was the only way he could register it.
I am not in connecticut, but the boat has an old mooring sticker that shows it may have been in stamford at one point.
Here's some photos. The boat rafted up next to it is my O'Day daysailor I'm moving out of. The Catalina's really not all that bad, considering I got it for free. :D
I would say that identification plate was added to the boat by the state of Connecticut. The original ID was etched in the boat under that location and probably became illegible. According to the owners list here that boat is within the range of 1977 boats.
Catalina could probably give you the true HIN--what's on that "CTZ" plate is clearly wrong. We can only speculate why. Several features tell me it's earlier than '84. The HIN should probably be CTYK00245M77c, where c = the month code, starting with A = August. As Joe said, it's probably under that plate, but the plate can't be right.
definitely see the proper hull no below. To the right of the tag I see what appears to be a 5. Drill out the rivets, and take another picture or report back.
ditto on contacting Catalina. They have always been great about responding to requests for information.
Would the plate have been a response to a salvage??? Regardless, the boat looks to be in good condition. Congrats and enjoy!
A C-25 HIN should start with CTY for Catalina Yacht Co., then K for the C-25 model, then 4 digits for the hull/sail number. The rest of the HIN tells you when it was produced.
