So tonight we're experiencing the first tempest of the '13 hurricane season (I just got my boat in the water last month!). And not the last according to the Hurricane Prediction Center - we're in for a more-active-than-normal season. I'm concerned about 4+ inches of rain overnight. No chance of getting out for a sail tomorrow, however I may be bailing 'er out on Saturday. Let's hope all the rest blow harmlessly out to sea.

Note that 1938 was a low year on that chart (before they started naming storms as they developed)... and along came the Long Island Express, which got its name after it killed some 700+ people and damaged 57,000 homes. It permanently changed the shoreline in my area.
And if I recall, while 2 years ago we had fewer hurricanes, we did get clobbered here in CT by Irene and later a freak October nor'easter. While not "Sandy class", these were still powerful storms.
