I see the Capri 25 rated as PHRF 174, and Portsmouth 84.2. We use Portsmouth for our rating system...
What I'd really like to know is, how the Capri rates in real time with: S2 7.9, the J/22 and the J/24 Which show: S2 81.0 168 J22 82.7 177 J24 80.8 168
I may be wrong, if I am reading this correctly this means that Portsmouth has a rather favorable rating for the Capri 25... because PHRF, has it between a J/24 and a J/22 in speed.
Can anyone verify or deny the performance (boat on boat) between these boats?
Wayzata Yacht Club in Minnesota has fleets of J-24, J-22, S2 7.9, and probably the biggest CP-25 fleet in the universe. You might be able to get some definitive answers there.
I guess it's crazy of me to think the WYC folks are members here? Will post to the Capri 25 group on FB, and see what they say. The WYC list serv is brutal.
The PHRF setting is regional and subject to appeal. In the San Francisco Bay Area, the Regional PHRF ratings is determined by the YRA association. I noticed my C250 had a faster rating than the national rating. Then I found the rating was last updated in 1996 (1-year after the C250 was released). It turned out that no one had appealed the rating in 16 years (2012 when I checked).
Since the Capri-25 is a one-design and the C250 is not, you still might find your regional authority then ask some questions. It was enlightening for me.
