Sailing along (nope, not sailing wrong word).. Bobbing up and down during yesterday's "Bob and Bake," we were "snailing" at less than 0.1 knots... Jetskier comes up within 30 feet and asks "Are you guys racing?"
GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE... Breathe... remember the sail clubs request to "be nice to motor boaters."
"Yes we ARE! Doesn't look it I know!"
13 starters on the line... 3.4 knots of wind to start.. average over 4 hours 1.2knots of wind. That is still 1.2 knots more than I saw on the course... We quit racing (one of many) after 3.5 hours of racing (club rule is, you are DNF if you aren't across the finish after 4 hours) we quit and motored in...
The RC called to us and said "you guys are 100 yards from the finish, why are you quitting?"
I said "We are 1 hour from the finish!"
I had no idea how bad it was until today... 13 started, 10 DNF... 4 finished (crossed the line) after 4 hours, so still got scored DNF.
NOPE WE AREN'T RACING! that's bobbing, baking, or as one person said it... "snailing."
I once tacked for the start line from 40 yards with 4 minutes to go - and was 13 mins late starting! The joys of summer racing....also had the summer wind go from 1 to 35 in 5 seconds - but that's another story!
I've had ducks pass me swimming... and I was still moving for that! Yeah I have proof of that as well... also that was moving faster than our race yesterday and my Capri 22 was a slug compared to my Capri 25 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsTcexuiHxw

HAHA, similar story last week, we were sailing in the Muskegon channel: Old man was walking along the channel and passed us TWICE. had a short puff which moved us ahead, but then slowly he caught and waddled past us again.
