I have them on a travel trailer and wish they were gone. It is the worse pulling trailer I have ever had. Been toying with the idea of changing them to spring type if I keep this trailer. I put 5200 axels under my boat trailer with electric brakes on both. It pulls, and stops, really well.
I've done bit of reading about torsion axles in the last few days. Seems like it's mixed bag of feedback. Some people love them and swear by them and some hate them.
In general they seem to provide smoother ride over leaf spring (just based on what i have read while doing some quick research). My only concern is that the weight is not equalized evenly across both axles as they are independent. Therefore, it's extremely important to ensure that the trailer is super level. Our boats are quite heavy as for trailer able boats, so I'm also bit concerned if I hit any unevenness on the road one axle might be more stressed than the other. Sooo... I decided to go with 2 x 5500 lbs leaf spring axles.
When I was a kid my dad had a wooden boat sitting on a trailer with torsion bar suspension. I think twice while he had it the torsion bar broke and he would have to engineer a way to get the boat & trailer home.
Just something to keep in the back of your mind if you have torsion axles.
