Recently purchased a 1980 Catalina 25 #1743
Very rusty keel, sanded down and found what looks like bondo repairs. Grinded out a large (4inch) area of bondo.
What to fill with? Gorilla Hair? More bondo? epoxy?
Ive heard bondo holds water. This is a steel fixed keel.
any suggestions?

Cast iron, actually... Marine Tex (epoxy putty) is like Bondo, although perhaps more suited to below-the-waterline marine repairs--who knows? There's plenty of iron down there and nobody can see it, so don't fixate--go sailing.

Bondo does hold water and shouldn't be used below the waterline. I don't think it should be used anywhere on a boat. MarineTex
