Getting to be that time of year - boat show time. This week it's Newport, next week it's Norwalk CT. A few weeks, the Mecca of all sail shows - Annapolis!!! My quandary is I love to poke around Newport looking at beautiful boats and all that boat show swag! Soft sides beer coolers that double for a life preserver, Vermont Hurricane Lamps (got one) and all those boat show specials like foldup bikes and last years' handheld VHF! But it takes away from sailing time when it's at a premium! Maybe I need to go to the Miami show in mid-winter instead, but it'll cost me $5,000 in airline tix, hotels and meals to save $40 on a radio. Somehow the math just don't add up!

. . . and the boat show deals aren't always what they're cracked-up to be. We got a quote from a local Ullman sail dealer at the Annapolis show - only to discover Ullman Ventura sold the same product for a few hundred dollars less.
I can't make Newport this year, and Norwalk hasn't been worth the admission to me... I'm waiting for Defender's warehouse sale in March--like a free boat show (without boats--except for a half acre of inflatables).
Don't know whether I'll make it but here's Flickr stream for the show (I promise it's not a porn site! ). Boat Show
