since the spoiler is out...IMHO - it's not a movie about sailing, for sailors..that's for sure..

Jerry, I kinda agree but don't think it got the interest of non sailors. My thinking is that's why it was only released to a few theaters, as only to attract the sailing crowd. Unfortunately it missed that point and several other points, including realism.
While one member pondered, I WAS distracted by endless un-seamanlike details. The Admiral even pointed many out as we sat watching.
In the end however, I did enjoy it as it was about sailing.
Next on my list Capt. Phillips.

There will never be a hollywood sailing movie as good as my memories... and I sail in a mud puddle. I would think most of you real sailors on this site have lived the best sailing movie of all.

I haven't seen that many sailing movies but one I did see and like was made by Walt Disney studios where they followed those college kids in the race from California to Hawaii. Sorry I forgot the name of the race.

My lady rented the movie today... After about 20 minutes, I was so aghast at what was going on she told me to shut up, so right now she's watching it alone. (She likes Redford.). This is not worthy of being a case study for aspiring blue-water sailors on how not to do things, although it could be interesting to count the ways... Redford's character need to be added to the Darwin list.

Now I'm trying to decide whether to go back and watch the rest in silence. I just had to vent!

Ya, my lady got it from the library (free), but I still feel like Redford owes me a beer.
