NautiDuck: Do you have all oft he head installation notes (from Peggy, etc) condensed in one location? I am not following along in understanding the venting loops. We will be upgrading our head as well. Do you suffer from "poo slosh" with the tank being fully forward?
Most of the notes are in my head. I can draw a diagram easy enough. I'll pull some notes and drawings together.
I couldn't avoid the turn ups at the end of the vents. Using the 1" hose, I get plenty of ventilation.
You can't see if from the pictures, but the tank does not sit level in the hole. The back of the tank is higher than the front. If you were to fill it all the way to the dump fitting, There would still be 2-3 gallons of air in the tank.
So far I haven't had any ill effects except that the bow sits a little lower in the water. I've got a swinger and leave the keel down at the slip so its already nose heavy. Even with the tank empty the boat sits heavy on the bow.
Are you concerned with having the vents so close to the water line? (of the boat I mean) Here on the California Delta there are many days sailing where the bow is constantly underwater, bashing through waves. I would be worried about filling the holding tanks with raw water from the river/lake/whatever.
I haven't had any issues yet, and I've had her laid way over since I did this job. About a year later and no stink. I'm putting her the gulf in a few weeks so I'll have more waves to deal with, but on the lake it doesn't seem to be an issue. The vents are far enough forward that they don't submerge easily.
In deciding where to put the thru-hulls, I looked at every picture of a Catalina 25 under sail that I could find. Every other part of the hull can be submerged under normal sailing. That's discounting waves. I put them as far forward and as high as I could get them.
If I have problems on the open water, I'll make a couple of rubber plugs for them while sailing.
