Hi Guys,

Well hopefully my power boat will sell soon and I can get back into sailing.

Needless to say there are no wing keel boats with a trailer near here.

There are several nice fin keel boats in the Atlanta area. They're less $$$$ too.

Here

Hi Paul,

I have a C-25 fin keel with an EZ Loader trailer. Regrettably, I do not have a trailer tongue extension. With care, I can launch the boat from the trailer. It is also possible to retrieve the boat without a tongue extension, by winching it up

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the input.

I've had a couple of Catalinas but not a fin 25. The fin keels are plentiful on the market and I'll bet may sail a bit better that a wing.

Does the fin boat point pretty well?

Does she heel quickly or is she pre

I have a 78 fin keel and trailer. Have had it a little over a year. I've launched and retrieved the boat 6 or 7 times and it is not that bad once you are used to it. The last two times I've launched and retrieved by myself. I have about a 30' heavy ch

Hi Paul
I too have a C25 FINN. I was nervous about launch/retrive until I read this article in Technical Tips. http://c25c250.best.vwh.net/restricted/fortu.html
In it you'll see a C250 but the steps are the same. Check it out.

Hi Guys,

The input you're sending is great help.

When I sell my Marinette I won't be so nervous about trailering a fin keel boat. There is a nice 1982 C-25 on Lake Lanier. Maybe she'll be the one.

Thanks a bunch.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Since the late 1970's, Catalina 25's have been the most popular sailboat at our lake, so we have had an opportunity to compare fin keels, wing keels, swing keels, tall rigs and standard rigs, and now C-250's against each other. My boat is a C-

Bill H. will probably answer this one! I've owned "This Side Up" for 10 years now and am still not sure what type of keel I should say she has!!! It's about 6' from front to back and about 3 1/2' deep. I know it doesn't swing, and it doesn't have wings, b

Derek: The fin keel draws 4', so yours should measure 4' down from the waterline. Besides having wings, the wing is only about 2-1/2 feet. If you don't have wings and the keel doesn't move, either you have a LOT of barnacles or a fin keel. <img src=ico

Dave - thanks! I sail in fresh water so I don't get barnacles (thank heaven!). I guess I have a fin then - but I still prefer the term "fixed" 'cos it don't look like a fin! (at least, not any fin I have ever seen on a fish :))

Hi Gang,

These posts are great.

I've been so hung up on the shallow draft of the wing keel that I haven't looked at the reality of the situation.

The fin keel draws only 1'2" more.

There are more fin boats on the market and they are less $$$.

Hi Paul
Have an 85 fixed keel and love the boat. This is our 1st yr.
It took me 6 tries to get in the trailer for the 1st run. Must
really watch out for low water.
She sails great.

Don't know if this helps, but this past weekend I just launched my C27 fin keel which was on its trailer when I bought it.

The recommended approach was to back to trailer down to the waterline, block the wheels, attach chain between trailer and truck

One of the advantages I thought about getting a swing on a trailer was that I could jjust back down the ramp and have at it. After looking at the lines between the boat/trailer and the tow vehicle I realized that I would be mostly in the water before she
