After a great weekend on the water over Independence day weekend, I was snugging JD up to the Bow Rollers when a loud bang stopped everything.

Broken Trailer Winch Drum Bolt
While snugging JD up to the bow rollers this past weekend the Trailer Winch Drum Bolt Sheered. Bang!

I'll be changing out all of the bolts on the Trailer Winch system this weekend! Stitch in time!

Ok, analysis of failed winch complete.

I was able to replace one of the two bolts in the winch mechanism but the other, the one that failed, is badly corroded within it's bearing and requires drum replacement.

I could not find a replacement drum, but a completely new winch, original replacement, found on the web for less than $100 including shipping. So it's on it's way.

I intend to lube the drum bolt of the new one at least annually. The specs state that the winch has lifetime lubricated seals, but as the warranty is only 3 years, I guess that means they are lubed for 3 years.

Anyone with a winch on their trailer might want to take a looksee and decide if it needs a stitch in time (lube) to prevent future failure.

Order Details
--------------------------------
Item : 2500 Lb. Capacity Winch [Dutton-Lainson]
SKU : 100-DL2500A [DL2500A]
Quantity : 1
Item Price : $77.87
Item Total : $77.87

--------------------------------
Sub-Total : $77.87
Shipping Method : UPS Ground
Shipping Amount : $13.72
Estimated Tax : $5.84

--------------------------------
Total : $97.43
--------------------------------

The two brands that I found all over the web were DL (Dutton-Lainson) and Fulton.
The OEM was Dutton Lainson. Figured stick to the OEM, at least the holes in the trailer to mount the winch 'should' match.

Prices varied from $77 to $150, Ordered from diytrailerparts.com as they were $20 less than even Amazon.
