Has anyone here ever used one of these mast gates, especially one about half-way down the site that has a bungee-like spring and can be engaged and released without tools.

Nope. I have the ones from CD installed. After some shaping, the worked well enough. I like the idea of the hinged gates, but I don't take my main off enough to worry about trying them.

I could see them being real useful for those guys that trailer sail. If you get them, let us know how they work out.

Ditto, The CD gates work just fine for the 2 times a year that I have to open it though I probably would be interested in a better method if I had to remove the main frequently.

Just curious. At present, both of my C22 mainsails have a bolt rope luff, so I don't have a need for a mast gate. But I could have used one on my C-25 and almost bought one.
