A friend lives in Louisiana on the North side of Pontchartrain where he can dock his boats in his backyard. He sails a Hunter 34 and this week added a "Big Sarge" to his fleet; a 1980 Marine Trader 44. It is so hard to get my mind around a 500 gallon fuel tank. It is getting a bow thruster installed then will become what surely be a really fun boat. He is glad she is a single screw instead of a twin because of the improved mileage. It all sounds like fun but wow what does it take to maintain a trawler with teak decks!
500 gallons fuel would last about eight minutes.......
Well, I'm guessing more like 4-6 hours under load, but still...
My 110 gallon tank is a bit too big for my purposes, but my engine is a bit smaller. It's a challenge for me to keep my fuel (e-10) fresh. The MT 44 will go a good distance on 500 of #2.
