Because we sail almost always alone (ie. not with other sailboats) we have virtually no pics of our boat under sail.
I explained to the Admiral that on our trip over Labor day I would really like to get some pics of JD under sail, especially if the opportunity arises, with the Asym flying.
But how?
We have a dink with out board and I'm a capable rower, so it would be easy for me to jump in the dink, take some pics and catch up - hopefully!
I've had this same thought, but I don't think I could get Rita to sail the boat on her own. I have friends I could put in the dink, but I rarely bring it when we go out for a day.
One thought I've had is starting up a FB page called "Picture my boat", where you'd take pictures of other people's boats & post them, in the hopes that you'd eventually get one taken & posted of yours. Figured there could be local chapters like "Picture my boat Seattle" so you could post & look for pictures in a localized area.
I was searching through the Images (Image Search Feature when you are logged into the Members area) looking for Dingy pics to see how long folks trail their dink.
I found this and have 2 questions: #1 Where was this taken? - looks a great place to sail
Lots of folks would like photos of their power and sailboats underway. Talk to other boaters at your marina and in your area, and schedule a date and time when one person will be on a bridge with a camera. Anyone who wishes could sail or motor up to the bridge and get a photo taken and have it emailed to him for free. You get a nice aerial view of the boat. An event of that kind has been scheduled a couple times in Annapolis, and has been a huge success.

#2 Under Sail or Motoring? I'm guessing under sail due to almost no wake, no exhaust trail, and a slight heel to the port side.

quote:So where is the center support for that horizontal mast?
Never had one, the boat was delivered with the mast rigged for trailering that way.
I recall seeing a post here that showed a support made out of what looked like a 3" PVC pipe. Is that what you refer to?
Thought about it but never got around to making one.

Don't recall where I read (or was told) to support the mast while in transit. The bouncing fatigues the metal. Perhaps you are supporting it near the midpoint with something not shown in the your picture?

Nope. I have the furler (empty) secured to the mast along it's length with all of the shrouds and stays and halyards (Main, Jib, but not the spinnaker as that is kept in the asym turtle until we are ready to raise the mast).
The bouncing would most likely be most noticeable near the center of the mast but is not point loaded accept at the ends.
FYI I'm always impressed by the apparent ride of the boat on the trailer. eg. This weekend, I stupidly left my wallet and digital camera on the cockpit floor by the swim ladder at the beginning of our 90 minute drive home. About halfway home, a truck pulled alongside of us and shouted that we had dropped a wallet off the back of the boat and it's contents flew all over the road.
I quickly signaled and was allowed to move to the roadside. Then I walked back about 3/4 of a mile and found my wallet in the 2nd lane of the 5 lane highway. A quick dash between the traffic and I had recovered the wallet. Almost MT, and as I walked further on the road side nothing. Then on my way back I found all of the cash in the grass (I assume it was mine ) and all but 3 of my plastic cards. No sign of the camera! And it had all of my Selfies !!!
Upon walking back to the boat on the trailer, Peggy asked if I had found it. As I was replying I saw my camera sitting precariously between the cockpit deck and the swim ladder (should have taken a pic of that one!)
The point being that despite traveling about a mile from the point of falling, the camera was happily sitting there unsecured. So that tends to indicate that the boat travels pretty comfy and does not get banged up too much en-route.
A quick dash between gaps in traffic flow. I timed it so that no vehicles were on their way to my spot for my brief dash. Not even close!
I did get to do an inventory of the things that end up on the side of the road... very few sailing related items unless you count the rare bear bottle. Lots of Gloves, Dozens of plastic cats eye road markers, several IPhones (appropriate ) and a few plastic bottles. Very few cig packs, only 1 other credit card (not mine) and quite a few fast food wraps.
Sounds like you might be in the market for a chain drive wallet! Talking about roadside finds, I was always amazed that there is usually one sneaker laying on the side of a road.... Do people drive down the road and take off one sneaker and toss it out the window???
