I bought a Capri 25 this past summer, my first boat. The aft end of the boom has only the outhaul (will probably need to be replaced). The flattening reef line and reefing line are both missing. I plan on adding those this winter. Can someone explain how these lines should run? I have been unable to find any info or diagrams on these so far. Thanks.

There are 3 sheaves on the inside of the gooseneck fitting on the forward end of the boom.

The "Reef" runs from one clam cleat (do not remember which side, and frankly it does not matter), forward, to 1 sheave on the gooseneck that is available, to the end of the boom, and out (and around) one of the 2 aft furthermost sheaves on the boom (the outhaul is the innermost sheave)...

So you effectively have just 2:1.

The flattening reef, or flattener is a less utilized adjustment, on all but dacron sails. In fact EP doesn't provide a flattening reef cringle unless you ask for it, as on the laminate sails it's no longer required (I know cause I asked when mine was missing).

Looks like the outhaul and flattener are on one side, the reef on the other.

This is a shot of the aft end of the boom, its upside down, but you can see easily there are 3 sheaves at the aft end... with the forwardmost the outhaul.

Thanks.

Does the reef line go directly from the aft sheave to the reef point on the sail? It would seem the reef line would need to pull straight down on the reef point. Pulling at an angle from the sheave would never pull it all the way down.

Yeah, I understand why you ask.. It SHOULD in my opinion have a padeye on the boom to go up to the reef point, and back down to the opposite side padeye. I instead looped it around the boom, it worked, but wasn't perfect.
