"The time has come", the walrus said.... After a wonderfully enjoyable 25 years it is time to retire from racing and from sailing. We are selling our C22 and moving on to land-based endeavors. In that time we have won everything on the lake that it is possible to win, and 3 Nationals in various parts of the Country. In no small part due to a wonderful and knowledgeable crew - they always made me look good! I've had the thrill of 2 Gulf of Mexico crossings (including 3 days & nights in a tropical storm) and 2 great charters in the Caribbean. I will miss this Forum with its wealth of knowledge and experience. Thanks to all of you who have made me a better sailor and for the chuckles we have had together. May you all have fair winds and smooth seas.

No No No.. You don't get off that easy. This is why we have the 'Admiralty Forum'. You have too much knowledge to just disappear. Stick around and put your 2 cents in whenever you think it could help. Don't make us come looking for you

Oh no, say it ain't so. You've got way too much C25 and C22 knowledge. you must stay involved! and not just the admiralty forum. There will be others who will benefit from your advice, not to mention correcting me when needed.

If I get to stay on, you HAVE TO stay on! After all, you carry the legend of the fastest C-25 on the planet (TSU)--with that come responsibilities!

I thank y'all for your very kind comments - I will definitely have to remain around as a "lurker" (if even to keep you lot honest!) LOL

That may not be sufficient... As supported by other comments, you are too connected to this community to just "lurk" silently among us. Let's hear about these "land-based endeavors" that have lured you away from sailing! Personally, I get the retirement-from-racing thing (since I was only crew, never a racing skipper), but total retirement from sailing, to "land-based endeavors" raises some questions, considering your (past?) passion for sailing!
I moved on in my own way--several factors (primarly a wonderful lady) led me to "consolidate my fleet" to a custom-built $+!nkp*+ that can live outside of my home, and can go places (and return) in timeframes and conditions that were not reasonable on a sailboat.
I've hung around here because I really enjoy this "community", and because occasionally I think I have something to add. YOU have more to add than I could ever hope to! Join me, Steve Milby, Stu Jackson, and a few others in the Admiralty--enjoy the old community we came to appreciate! The newbies will benefit more from you than from me!

Canyon Lake is in your blood now.. No matter how far you stray she will will always call you back sooner or later! I still make my yearly trek back after 30 years.

Don't sell yourself short! I've learned a great deal from you over the years.
I just sold my SeaRay a week ago after 25 years. I'm already regretting it!

Thanks, but I suspect sometimes I tell people more than I know...

No Ray, that will never happen. We are retiring completely from sailing.

O'kay, so if my Son ever gets stationed back in Texas, where am I going to get my fix? Next question, are you going into the land cruising sector and when are you coming to Florida so I can repay for all the good times?

Jerry, we were thinking of land cruising but I'm not sure that anyone would rent an RV to an 80-yr old... If we can find someone to look after 4 dogs, a cat and 2 fish we will be doing some car touring.

Come visit Mystic and bring the fish... We can show them the Beluga Whales. They'll love it!

Derek, you've been a hero to a bunch of us! Some here weren't born when you were humiliating racers with TSU--others here have reveled (vicariously) in your exploits. All of us have enjoyed and benefited from your expertise and camaraderie! As for humor, what can beat the boat name ^This Side Up^, especially given the story behind it?!

I agree with Stu...don't go away, come by and check in every once in a while. That's what I do. Joined 15 years ago, had a C25 fin, then a C320, sold both...still enjoy passing through here.
OK gang, I'll be an "active lurker", will that be good?
