Florida Senate Bill 1548 is scheduled to be on the agenda Tuesday March 31st. That's this coming Tuesday! What the heck! PANIC! Push this on your facebook account, on your sailing Club facebook account, Tweet it, call your local news offices, but please... PANIC!
BOAT US is asking us to help squash this Bill before it becomes law! Note: SB1548 - BAD - Vote it DOWN - Severely Restricts Florida Anchoring
Please repost with additional links to your local news agencies (Tampa, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando, Palm Beach, etc. etc.)
If we don't stand up against this bill, we will all be affected.
Note the bill has the heading: quote: An act relating to vessel safety; amending s. 327.02, 3 F.S.; defining terms; creating s. 327.4107, F.S.; specifying how vessels may be anchored or moored on waters of the state; amending s. 327.73, F.S.; providing a noncriminal infraction; amending s. 327.391, F.S.; conforming a cross-reference; providing an effective date.
The title is misleading (I wonder why?) It does not specify 'how vessels may be anchored or moored' But it does specify 'where' vessels may be anchored or moored!!! Please share my facebook link with anyone that you know takes their boat out overnight!
With 6 degrees of separation, we should be able to reach the world pretty quickly.
Here's the text that I submitted to the news media listed above.
quote: Miami Boat Show may be cancelled
That's the kind of impact that Florida Senate Bill SB1548 may have on the Boating Community of Florida The Bill is supposedly about Anchoring Safety - but it's not about 'how' boats may anchor in Florida, it's about 'Where' boats may anchor in Florida.
As the news about this bill is getting around, many boater visitors to Florida are already reconsidering if they will pass by our State due to the impossible anchoring restrictions that SB1548 imposes.
And who is going to buy a boat at the Miami International Boat Show in 2016 if they know that they cannot anchor their boat in Florida?
Marina's, Restaurants, Local businesses, will all be adversely affected by this Bill.
There is a house bill that deals with Derelict boats, but SB1548 throws out the Baby with the Water!
How come this has not been reported in the local news?
Guys, I'm standing with you. We now have the exact same situation here in Czech Republic. New law (valid from the next month without notifying the local boat associations during the negotiations) prohibits anchoring during a night everywhere except the places designated for long term anchoring (only a few or zero of such places exist now).
Big rush about it now on the local forums and with the administration, but I'm a bit skeptical.
Good luck with your fight!
