Seen alot of technical mumbo jumbo here. Now for something really important. Wife cut loose two boat units. Bought a nice cd player for the boat. Any suggestions on where to place the speakers?
Pictures would be great!

A search of the archives should reveal a thread not long ago on this subject.
A short recap...in the cabin, they have been mounted in the settee kick panels and flush mounted on the teak railing of the liner between the settees and the V berth.
If using cockpit speakers, there is growing concensus to mount them under the stern seats.
This is the only picture I have right now of a speaker. It's on the starboard side of the cockpit. The port side speaker is in the same place. I am going to the boat on Friday I will snap a couple pics for you. You can see the speaker on the left side of the picture
I apologize, I went to the boat today but forgot the camera at home. I will be down again Saturday or Sunday will take some then. Sorry.

This sounds like a good idea. I think the c350 come from the factory with speakers mounted under the stern rail seats. On the next boat if I have to install cockpit speakers I will put the weatherproof box style under the stern rail seats.
If anyone is interested this is where the TV satellite receiver and DVD player is located. The 15" flat screen TV is portable and it sits on the counter above the drawers.
I installed two speakers below the Port and Starboard Settees as far forward as possible to keep them from the stuff stowed in the lockers. I plan to install the next two under the Stern Seats. I have seen this installation and the are completely out of the way and simple to run the wires, Steve
Just a quick aside, I too thought about stereo installation, but have avoided it so far. I did purchase an XM satellite stereo - and use this in the boat. It works great and I just transfer the credit card sized module to the car and home - and have XM there too!! No I can't play CD's, but I think I take too much stuff to the boat anyways - that's just one more thing to think about packng. Good luck with the installation.
Interesting reading this thread. Built in sound is on the list, not too far down. So far I've schlepped two self powered speakers with a half a million batteries in them....and fought with the wire clutter.....What I also bring is my RioRiot MP-3 player, 20 Gig HD, 300 CD's/5000 songs in the palm of your hand...now there's efficient use of space, and under two boat units....If anyone wants to know more I'll be happy to expound.
You can go to http://www.sonicblue.com and look for the RioRiot. They're also for sale on e-bay.....

Tell me more. Will it interface with the single CD/stereo I have in my boat now? That would be great if it did. Then I could listen to CDs with out having to remember to bring the CD case that is the size of a notebook.
The output of the player, as most other players is a pin-headphone jack (1/8 inch). The way I interface with cars etc is with a casette adapter, available from Radio Shack 20 bucks. Looks like an audio cassette, but with a wire coming out of it with a 1/8 inch stereo plug. It's not the most elegant way, ie loose wire, but it works. When I put a stereo in my boat I'll be looking for a unit with a rear input, and then I'll install a permanent wire or outlet for the connection. Finally, there is also a little unit (once again Radio Shack), that takes the player signal and broadcasts a weak FM signal on a pre-determined frequency which you can then tune your radio to.
Sounds like you need to visit a Circuit City. I have found their (relatively young and up to date) sales people very helpful, and especially during off-peak hours they are more than willing to take the time to get you up to speed.
Hope this helps.

Just saw a great idea, IMHO. Mounting stereo above table under cabin top. Anybody have any ideas on this? Do you think wood screws into the fiberglass would do? Don't want to go thru the deck if I don't have to. Also WM stereo I bought comes with an almost non existant installation manual. Talks about an orange wire going to the ignition. Should this go to black or red?
The Player is mounted on the arch between the two spotlights above the table.
From there, it is "fairly easy" to fish speaker wires down the starboard side and back to the circuit breaker panel and then to the stern, where I put the speakers on the inside. At this location, they sound good outside and inside, being kind of far away from the table location and not blasting directly in your ears.
The player location also enables the use of the supplied remote control from the steering pedestal, a good thing if you receive a radio call to party.
