I saw a post on somebody having a problem with water splash coming up the keel pipe.

To stop this on my Venture, I stuffed a couple cheap cellulose sponges down the cable pipe. (trimmed to fit snugly when dry)

When water starts to splash up the pipe, the sponges swell up and form a pretty effective splash barrier.

No more water in the boat. Every couple years, another sponge gets stuffed in the pipe as the old ones deteriorate.

My solution was to shoot a small gob of canned expandable foam inside.

End of problem.

I also use the sponge-in-hose method, and it has worked just fine for three years.
