I may have to redo my standing rigging, i was quoted around $1000.00 parts and labor. is that a reasonable price?

<font size=2><font face='Comic Sans MS'>Steven,
I bought just the shrouds from Catalina Direct for about $409.00 with shipping and replaced them myself in about an hour. Complete Catalina Direct standing rigging kits start at $489.95 without the backstay. The back stay is another $99. Replacing the shrouds was easy as pie and they were sized perfectly (I have a 1985 standard rig). So you are basically paying an extra $400.00 (or 4 "boat units" <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>) for labor and the yard to take the time to measure and cut when CD has all the measurements.
I will say I am having the yard (Oyster Bay Marine Center.) make a new forestay for ”Peregrine” for $85.00 plus the labor to remove and replace my furler because I don’t have the time to do the work myself. It was worth letting them make up the forestay as the cost was less than CD's price with shipping.

Add in the cost for new (open) turnbuckles, which are worthwhile in my opinion, plus the new 'chainplate eyebolts' for the lower shroud attachments if you haven't replaced your old-style ones (about $69). I replaced all myself, a pretty easy job (with the mast down, of course) providing you have the time.

Before you take the mast down you might note how tightened the turnbuckles are now so you have some idea how long the new rigging should be. I sent in my old rigging for measurement.

<font size=2><font face='Comic Sans MS'>The Catalina Direct standing rigging kits include new open turnbuckles. This a quote from the rigging page,
<b>“Our rigging kits are complete with forestay, forward lower, aft lower & upper shrouds, plus open body turnbuckles and T-bolts & toggles, cotter pins”.</b>
New 'chainplate eyebolts' are a good idea but are not included in the CD kit.

I paid almost $2000 for new standing and running rigging plus a Harken self-furling. Redid the mast head light, antenna and sheaves. Also had to do a crack repair on the masthead fitting. Price included parts, labor and yard time. The spreaders were in surprisingly good shape, so I left them alone. After a couple of outtings, the rigger re-tuned the rig as part of the deal.

We paid 500 bucks for new standing rigging last year installed. It is a size bigger in diameter (not noticable until you have to go buy a new loos tension guage.) than what Catalina had originally had. It also came with new open turnbuckles.
