Yesterday was my first day of actual sailing this year. The weather was "unsettled", intermittant showers and a thunderstorm late in the day. But the wind was fantastic! For about 6 hours, it was blowing 12 kts from the south with gusts to about 18, enough to move the boat real nice with the 155 genny and full-batten main. We ended the day with 23.3 NM on the GPS track log, oh, how sweet it was! Averaged 5.2 kts boat speed the whole 6 hours, with occasional bursts into the mid 6's and once for a few seconds the GPS showed 7.2 kts. Here are some pics I took after I got back in.

Quiet Time in her temporary slip, O-39, which I have for two more weeks while my trailer is being worked on, then it's back to dry storage.

Quiet Time is a '79 SK, with the "L" shaped dinette. I have a 3/4" plywood board and a cushion to fill the aisleway between the dinette table and the starboard settee; this makes a full queen size bed. This picture shows how the filler board stows:

I hace replaced the factory curtain burner with an Origo two-burner stove, and I also use the small microwave occasionally, when we have shore power (unfortunately no shore power at Folsom Lake)

Thunderstorm over Folsom Lake. I am standing in the cockpit, and you can see my swim ladder, a 5-rung Garhauer, on the left side on the picture. This ladder is quite long, and sticks up about a foot higher than the stern pulpit.

Quiet Time's main cabin. I reupholstered all the cushions in '99, and refinished all of the interior wood in 3 coats of Cetol. The curtains are brand new, done this past winter. The stereo and the dish rack were the first things I added when I got the boat in '96. You can see the boat hook hanging from the overhead on the starboard side, which is also where the whisker poles are (not visible in this photo).

This picture shows my VHF and Garmin 125 GPS/Sounder on a West Marine swing mount in the companionway. This arrangement makes it possible to use both devices and still steer the boat when singlehanding, which is most of the time. And of course I can use the radio or play with the GPS from inside the cabin too.

Larry, when you put the new stove in, was any modification required to the original gymbals? I'd like to replace the pressurized stove on "Even Chance," but have wondered about how the Origo 3000 attaches in the old space.

The Origo is not gimballed, it just sits in the bottom of the metal liner tray left behind when the original "curtain burner" stove was removed. The Origo is slightly smaller than the original pressure stove and fits easily in that space. Actually, I hardly ever use the Origo stove, either. I have taken to using a small propane camping stove most of the time. Alcohol for the Origo stove costs almost 10 times as much as propane, and it takes twice as much to deliver the same amount of "cooking power". The propane has to be handled more carefully, of course, as it will sink into the bilge and become an explosion hazard if the cylinder is leaking. I have a small 10 pound bulk cylinder that I take on cruises that will run a week or more, otherwise I just use the small 16 ounce Coleman disposable bottles. That's enough propane to cook several meals, and usually I can get at least a full 3-day weekend on one.

. . . and the Coleman stove is ever so much cheaper than the Origo. Thanks for the advice.
