Sorry we missed some of the Olympia area sailors. The cruise to Penrose was realy nice. Carr inlet saw Dall's porpoise on the way west. We had three of them jumping our bow wake. No wind on Friday so we were motoring. Friday night was warm, we had BBQ for dinner with a good bottle of wine. Broke out the Lap Top/DVD and watched Pretty Woman. Ended the evening sitting out under the stars until after midnight. Saturday was a mixed bag of weather as a front moved through. Threats of rain never materialized but the wind piped up to 30kts. Penrose has good holding and we never had any trouble. There were 28 to 30 boats in the anchorage. Bon fire Saturday after the South Sound Cruising Clubs pot luck dinner. Kind of laid back and made new friends. A couple of Cape Dories made it down from Bainbridge Island, a 38' Morgan, 38' HansChristian, a nice trimaran several Catalinas and various other types. Sunday was the best day with perfect wind. We sailed east out of Carr inlet at 5.5kts did a wing and wing through the Tacoma Narrows going north against the tide and around Point Defiance into Tacoma. Once again the porpoise showed up and we detoured to play with them. They look just like baby Orca's. The weekend was great. We hope to do something similar again soon and hope our friends from the south will be able to make it. Dall porpoise picture courtesy of Dall porpose picture gallery.
We've spent the last three years vacations cruising the San Juans and the Gulf Islands and your pictures just brought back some great memories. Thanks !!!!!
Not to worry John. We will be down in your area several times this summmer. Hows that little one doing? I would like to head to McMiken some time soon or Jarell Cove. See you on the water.
Let me know when you're heading to McMicken or other points south.
Graham is doing okay, back up and running around like nothing ever happened. Was running a 103.5 temp through the weekend. Then Monday developed a rash on his cheeks. Took him into the doc on Tuesday to find he was in the later stages of "Fifth Disease". Never heard of it before. 1.Measles 2.Scarlet Fever 3.Rubella 4.Some rash related disease unknown in this day and age 5.Fifth disease (I guess they ran out of names for 'em).
Welcome to the world of raising children. Been there done that and got three shirts. We will stay in touch and will let you know when we are heading south.
What a great day on the Sound today. We sailed Tacoma to Port Orchard in 15-20 winds most of the day. Motored part of the way through Colvos as both wind & water were working against us a bit, but other than that we were able to do some fine sailing. It was just one of those days that reminds you why we live here.
Glad to here your out and about Doug. We were keeping an eye out for you last weekend. I knew you had prior plans but thought if you returned early you might be out in the evening. I love to sail in the evening. Nothing is like a nice sunset sail.
