For the second time since we bought our 250 brand new in 1995, the part inside the mast which secures the mast-raising pole has broken. We have tried to find a replacement (which I think now has been modified and is called a "mast-raising tube") from our local dealer as well as Catalina, but have been unsuccessful so far. Any suggestions? It's hard to sail without a mast!
I think the part you refer to is the anchor point for the gin pole. It is simple a plastic bushing mounted using a fairly long bolt that looks to be around a #10-12. A similar bushing should be able to be found locally... if without luck...let me know and I'll make one for you.
btw... it is important that the holding screw break fairly easy when in a strain...otherwise some mast damage might result if the gin pole were pulled unrestrained against the hole its inserted. It is important to properly pretension the halyard prior to raising the mast to avoid too much load on the bushing. Think of the bushing as only a tool to hold the gin pole in position until the halyard and load come into balance and the bushing will survive a better fate.
