When loose fooing the Main is there a need to have it cut? I am not sure what that piece at the foot is called. I have heard differing opinions on the need to have the sail modified. What say you who have done it?

Rubin,

I see no reason to have the sail recut. It shapes well loose footed. It is also equipped with a metal reinforced slug so is good to go.

Enjoy the ease of outhaul performance and the nice handhold during sail management.
