At the beginning of our season in upstate New York I set the lowers to 15, uppers 17 and backstay 21. However I do not race or demand the best performance. Visually the mast appears straight and in what I consider heavy wind the shrouds remain fairly tight. A few years ago... someone posted that giving numbers had pitfalls because of several different gauges and that even similiar gauges don't provide the same readings.
I'm not saying however that some numbers wouldn't be helpful as a starting point.
