Has anyone used a Loos Tension Gauge on their rigging? I am interested what the tension shoould be for the backstay and shrouds.

At the beginning of our season in upstate New York I set
the lowers to 15, uppers 17 and backstay 21. However I do not race
or demand the best performance. Visually the mast appears straight and in what I consider heavy wind the shrouds remain fairly tight. I think you should use the search engine and read what people with lots of knowlege on Mast Tuning have to say. "Bear" on Brandy C250 WB

A few years ago... someone posted that giving numbers had pitfalls because of several different gauges and that even similiar gauges don't provide the same readings.

I'm not saying however that some numbers wouldn't be helpful as a starting point.

I don't use a Loos gauge. I do mine by feel. Here is a link on the c25 forum talking about the same thing.

IMHO I don't think there is a right or wrong way to go about tuning the rig it is all a matter of personal preference.
