I am interested in one final upgrade for 'Wood Duck' (#2616): I would like to mount the gear and throttle controls and electric start (and stop) in the cockpit. Has anyone done this for a Honda? I have seen cable-controlled remotes for the old Johnson and Evinrude two strokes, but not for a Honda.

Deastburn,
You say you have seem cable controls on the old Johnsons...I have an '86 9.9 w/electric start...Is it possible to add controls for these in the cockpit.
I've seen thee lever assemby in the catalogues, but does any one have ant diagrams of how this will fit the 9.9 Sailmaster??

Thanks again, gang.

Not to throw cold water on any dreams, but I can't help relating to a friend's tiller-steered Catalina 30 with the throttle and shifter for their inboard mounted on the side of the cocpit seat where it gets kicked and nudged at all the wrong times. With the front-mounted shifter and long-handled throttle on our Honda, I really appreciate having the controls OUT of the cockpit. If I had a wheel (which I don't want), the controls on the pedestal would make sense--otherwise, I'd skip it.

I have started the process of mounting the controls in the cockpit. The connection to the engine has changed with the 2002 model so you may want to check into what it will take. The only reason I went for the install is that my previous engine had the cockpit controls and I liked them. As Dave said, they do get in the way once in awhile. It just helps me to keep looking forward when docking, instead of reaching over and looking backwards to find the Honda.

Since I back into my very tight slip, steering with the engine, it's perfect!

DaveB,
Thanks for the advice...makes sense (as always)...I'm really not ready to put out the 'Boat Units' for something I can do for free.
It's just that I wanted to get the Admiral more involved with docking. If something comes along, and it looks easy, I may reconsider...Meanwhile...what I have works great!

Thank you ,all.

Here's what it would take to control a four-stroke remotely:

1) A motor start/stop switch (that has to be easy for the electric start);

2) A cable to control the throttle leading to a throttle lever on the side of the cockpit.

3) A cable-contolled Gear shift lever. The lever would, I assume, be twinned with the throttle lever.

None of this seems hard to acccomplish. I will be talking with my local Honda dealer this week. Once I have finished building the new bathroom vanity cabinet...

I will keep you all posted...
