Hi folks,
I still monitor the C22 discussion list even though I just sold my 22 as there are many similarities between our boats. Check out this bimini top which was homemade out of ash, cypress, and canvas, for this guy's C22. He said he did it for 50 bucks

I asked for more details and if I find out more I'll let you know

That looks pretty nice.

I like how he mounted it the side of the cabin.

Very classy! I don't know whether I'll want mine that far forward--we'll see when it arrives. But I could get some teak-woodgrain contact paper and....... <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Looking at the photo, you can see that the boat has the new style flush-mount cabin windows, making it an '86-'90. These were the best Catalina 22's for non-racing use, with the most "creature comforts". Mine was an '86 SK, which I bought in '94 but only kept for 2 years before I got "Quiet Time". The 22 was fun to sail and easy to trailer, but even with the pop-top raised it didn't have enough head room for me, so I went shopping for a 25. I suspect a lot of 25 owners have about the same story; started with a C-22 and moved up.

I wonder why he mounted the bimini so far forward? It doesn't really give any shade in the cockpit, which is what I thought is the main purpose of one?

Larry:

You hit on the problem with biminis and both 22's and 25's--the end-boom mainsheet means you have to allow room for the boom and its sheeting to swing. The wooden bimini shown looks great, but would probably work best at the dock or to keep the rain out of the cabin. Or maybe the crew gets protection from the sun while the skipper develops a rugged tan at the helm.
