Hi All, does anyone know the dimensions of a swing keel? I'm having my SR/SK turn into a SR/WK (Yippiee!!), and I'm selling my swing keel to a guy from Quebec who will be putting it on his 1980 C25, but he's not sure it will fit in his minivan.
I would be more concerned about the weight than the size. I think the keel is about 8 feet long, BUT it weighs 1500 lbs! Getting the keel in and out of a minivan would be a difficult task. FYI, I put my keel in the back of a full size 1/2 Ton Dodge Ram short bed pickup truck and it nearly bottomed out the suspension. I would not have felt comfortable driving the truck farther than the 200 yards to my garage
Good grief! I can't imagine putting that hunk of steel inside a minivan. I would advise him to either rent or borrow a pickup truck or a trailer. 1500 lbs is hard enough to handle without trying to turn it into a suppository too.

Ben, 1500 # supositiry ! Too funny to think about ... and in a mini-van? Reminds me of that picture that made to rounds lasst spring. It showed 20 shhets of plywood on top of a Ford Escort, the rear seat waass full of 5 gaal buckets of joint compound. Yea, it fit, but the rocker panels were rubbing the dirt! Which reminds me, what happened to this guys original keel? That might be a story of which we could learn something. Such as, how to take care of your pivit pin and cable. Good luck, send us a picture of the minivan with the exploding tires.

Thanks to everyone who provided measurements, and to everyone who offered words of caution. I refered the buyer to this post and he has since changed his mind and decided to haul it on a trailer.
To answer your question Chris, he offered $200 which I accepted.
I'm not sure how he's going to load the keel on the trailer. He plans on seeing if the boat yard can help with a fork lift or some such device.
