I am toying with the idea of a new outboard this year. Anyone have any idea what a 1988 Yamaha 9.9 hp 4 stroke, electric start, long shaft w/ power thrust propellar would bring?

The engine runs great, doesnt burn oil and has seen little use in the past 4 years (less than 10 hours)

What is wrong is the cover has a few cracks, which I glassed, and the idle at slow speed sometimes is to low.

You might want to check out some used outboard motor sites such as http://www.smalloutboards.com/ In all seriousness, after you establish the price let me know. If yours runs well I may be interested in matching the web offer and have you ship the outboard to me in Houston.

...in other words, low "curb appeal"... That's tough to measure--a sound inside can be effectively hidden by a broken outside, and buyers, like you, want a nice-looking product. But for a fair price, there's a buyer for everything.

Just a warning to Frank and John: Several potential buyers wanted me to ship my '96 Honda 8 to them, and that turns out to be very difficult. I don't remember the particulars, but it was too big/heavy for some carriers, while others wouldn't ship something with even traces of oil or gas, and the packing and crating was an issue. (The materials for new engines didn't fit the older one.) In the end, the dealer from whom I bought the new engine sold the old one for me, to a walk-in customer who wanted the lighter model and lower price. Maybe your dealer will help you out--it won't be competing with his new engines. BTW, my '96 went for $1100 two years aog, and I felt very good about that price. I can't extrapolate from there, but www.nadaguides.com will.
