I just purchased a 1978 Catalina 25 and the engine is mounted on the port side. In my reading everything says it is supposed to be mounted on the stbd side. She sits level in the water so ballasting is not an issue. The previous owner told me it was mounted there because the gas tank is on the lazarette on the port side. Any comments? Was there a few years where the engine was mounted on the port side?
Don't worry about your outboard being mounted on the port side ... all of the early Catalina 25s were made that way. The switch to the starboard side came sometime in the early 80s (I think) ... the reason was because it was easier to install the motor mount on the starboard side after they modified the fuel locker on the port side (Bill Holcolm can supply more info if you're interested).
My 82 is to starboard, Buzz is right. fully load your boat for the season, water tanks, fuel, sail bags, assorted must haves. Go to the next dock behind you boat. If your boat is listing to port, try rearranging your storage. If that does not get it then move the mount. No list; go sailing!

Have fun with your "new" boat! <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
Hi Eddie... Indeed, Catalina Direct is a great resource. Be sure to join this association, too--the forum alone is worth many times the price of admission ($20). Congratulations on your Cat and welcome aboard!
I have an 80 C-25 and the motor is mounted to port. I have always liked it that way because I have a single backstay mounted slightly to starboard. This leave a little more room to get to the motor.
You have a great boat and we are all very fortunate to have this forum. I have been talking to other boat owners and they are either unaware or there are not forums like this to share experiences.
Orion is 1981, #2343, and motor is on port side, looks like original bracket (tubular, 1 set springs, adequate for two-stroke) and tank locker is also to port, fair winds, ron srsk in SW FL
"Wood Duck" is 1981, #2616, and the motor has always been mounted to starboard. The single backstay is mounted to port. So I guess the change happened during the Spring or Summer of 1981...
"Little Wing" is 1980 with port mount; looks original, and that's the side the gas is on. I made a new motor mounting block with a taper, to square the motor up with the transom. I'm looking to raise the main halyard block off the traveler next; I find it really gets in the way, especially when I'm driving while standing up.
By the way, this was my first year, and I found the C-25 to be a solid ride with good pointing. I've found much good advice here, and will join the club officially as soon as I can find a spare twenty bucks....
