A friend of mine (with a runabout) pointed out today that his owners manual says to back off on the tie down straps for winter storage on the trailer. Just got through The 250 manual and they might have left that chapter out. What do you Captians do?

I take them off all the way when not actually trailering. They are ribbon straps with ratchets, and the steel hooks create nasty corrosion when left on stainless cleats etc. too long. (The plastic on the hooks has worn through.) The only strap from trailer to trailer is over the cockpit and that one is in the way when working on the boat.

I "dry-slip" my boat on her trailer. Once I recover her to her trailer and have her parked in her 'slip' I ease off the winch strap to relieve the tension. When I get ready to launch her again, I tighten the strap again. Similarly, being a WB, when I get her to her 'slip', I ease off the centerboard line and allow the board to rest on the 'bunk board' on the trailor. It seems like I recall seeing it suggested somewhere to do that with the centerboard line to relieve the pressure on the line when 'on the hard'.
Thanks. Looks like a road trip, because I neglected to loosen the tie downs. <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">I ease off the centerboard line and allow the board to rest on the 'bunk board' on the trailor.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote"> Me too.
