Hi John V. Looks like we're neighbors! I'm in Columbus, Ohio. You're the only other local C25 owner I've found on this board. Where do you sail your boat locally? I'm in Alum Creek Reservoir.
I sail primarily in the North Channel of Lake Huron where my family has a home on one of the Islands there. I have kept my boat on lake Erie from time to time for fall sailing. Being a teacher I have that blessed break in the summer. Any one who teaches knows that during the school year there really isn't a lot of free time. I don't have the weekends to sail because of the schedule. While cruising in the summer the older cruisers are retired and the younger ones are teachers. One sailor/teacher I ran into in Hilton Beach Ont. said that the three best things about teaching were June July and August. I happen to love my work and have a different view about what is best about being a teacher but I have to agree that without the summer months the 60 hour weeks would be wearing.
I have an O Day 17 daysailer that I can drag to the reservoir for an afternoon. With my C25 on the hard this fall I was looking for a boat in the water in order to get some photos for the article being written for Mainsheet. I should have put it to the forum to find a C25 still in the water. I would love to see your boat sometime. send me a private email if you like.

I look forward to reading your article.
Thank you for that sentiment. for me the blessing is the response to music made by children. Their voices and their un affected performance is pure joy and brings us who teach them some measure of what lies beyond the veil. I often bring a keyboard with me when I sail so I can compose during the summer. I create a lot of the music we perform and that time alone is really great for me to get ideas for the comming years activities.
You C-25’s owner’s won the response test, the message was posted to both C-25 & C-250 list. Percentage wise you C-25 owners either love your boats more or have more time to post due to lower payments. In reality like the passion of the C-25 owner, the few C-250 owners responding had established a consummated commitment to the love of their boats.
I appreciate every comment since they were all unique heart felt. You are all an amazing group of sailors as my distant cousin Charlie Vick say’s.
You have me pondering as I sail my C-22 today in 22 mph wind @ 71 degrees in cool Texas.
for what it is worth, my 2cents worth. last May I gave up my C25 for a C30. I bought the C30 for the same reason that I orginally bought my C25----it is simply the best and most boat you can get for the money!

and the nicest damn folks you will ever meet, both the Csailors and the Cbuilders! BTW, did I also mention the prettiest! (the boats not the sailors) ;)

Back in '96, when I had come to the conclusion that my C-22 was just too small for me and I had to get something with at least 6'-2" headroom, I spent several months looking around at a lot of different boats. The Catalina 30 and Newport 30 were top contenders, and I especially liked the layout of the Catalina 30. The engine and transmission are underneath an easily removed galley cabinet, and the shaft packing gland is located a foot or so forward of the companionway ladder under an access plate. The Catalina 30 has about the best access to the propulsion plant and shaft glands for repair and maintenance of any 30 footer I've ever seen. I seriously looked at 3 or 4 boats that were within my budget, but after a long "think over" of all the considerations, the deciding factor was that most of my sailing club friends are based at Folsom Lake and all boats launched or berthed there must be trailerable, which limits the absolute upper end of the size range to the Catalina 270. The Catalina 270 is only trailerable with a Wide Load Permit, requires a very expensive, 12,000# GVWR capacity, custom built gooseneck trailer, and really has only a little more in the way of amenities than the Catalina 25, so that's what I ended up with - my '79 Mk. I, #1205, which I hope to sell next spring. Back in '96 when I was first shopping for a replacement for the 22, the '88-'91 Catalina 25 Mk. IV's were still too new, and I couldn't afford one. Older C-27's and -30's with Atomic 4 gas engines were pretty cheap at the time, as low as $8000 for a 27, $14000 for a 30. Of course I would have preferred a diesel, but that adds a few thousand to the price.
