While we are all giving thanks for our blessings, let us not forget to thank those who are now in harm's way. God bless, fair winds, ron srsk Orion SW FL
Thanksgiving is a special time of year for us to give thanks for our blessing, that are more numerous than we can think off. And, Ron is right, we pray for those in harm's way asking that God protect them and keeps them safe, and works out a just peace in all areas that are burrened by strife and hatred.
Thanks for all of you who are part of this community!
The Fourth of July is our loud and boisterous American holiday, with chest beating and back slapping, but this is the one that truly speaks to who we are as a nation. We do not claim some devine right for our good fortune, rather we recognize it is the result of the wisdom of our leaders and the hard work of our fellow Americans. We have so much to be thankful for. This is secular America at it's best. (As opposed to Christmas, which is secular America at it's worst!)

Which is more than a little ironic, since in both Massachusetts Bay and Virginia (where the first Thanksgiving was held a year before the Pilgrims landed), the fall harvest festival was a clearly religious event. The harvest festivals have origins in antiquity -- both Succoth and Pentecost are Jewish examples of harvest fests. It's not an American holiday at all, except that we think we invented all kinds of things we didn't. Which makes it pretty American, doesn't it?
Aside from all that, may you all have safe and blessed reunions with family and friends, a Great Feast around the table, and share stories old and new with each other late into the night.
