This afternoon, I sent the Fleet Development Manual and attachments to three local fleets that have expressed interest in developmeing a local fleet. And as I typed this I thought of another group that I need to send it to.

If anyone out there in c25/250 land would like a copy please e-mail and give me your 3-mail address, I will reply with the FDM attached.

Developing fleets is an important activity of the NA and a significant goal of your current officers. The process is fairly simple and the manual and attachments provide good information to help you get going and build a strong fleet that will be benefit to your members in terms of racing, cruising, rondezvous and social activities, whether your members are are associated with a yacht club or an All Catalina Alliance.

In addition to the four I memtioned above I am aware of four other areas that are in very preliminary stages of developing a local fleet. John G. says that in spite of listing 23 local fleets, we really have only four active fleets. If all these works in progress go, we could triple the active fleets within the next year or so.

I believe this is pretty exciting for the NA, and it only speaks of a bright future for c25/250 sailing!

I’m sorry Bill, that’s really not fair.
Our previous Commodore handled the Commodore’s job AND the Secretary’s job because no one stepped up. Ed (Jakubas) worked hard to organize the membership roles and get a service to handle renewals and new membership. He and I contacted by e-mail, snail mail and phone, every listed fleet to see who was really active. If you were a member then you know the Association was in turmoil and Ed did a lot to make sure we survived at all. A (one) group asked to be a fleet he kicked right in and got them a number, Fleet #94 the hosts of the 2004 National Regatta.
If you go back and look at the topic [url="http://www.catalina25-250.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5257"]Fleet Development Package[/url] you will see that your complaints came right when the new officers were working to help groups become fleets. So IMHO “…be involved and complian....” (that would be complain) is NOT the way to get things done.
We look forward to you forming an active fleet and I will see that your activities are reported on in the Mainsheet. I think our past and new officers are doing a very good job keeping this organization running and healthy. No other Catalina association has a forum or web site like ours and the Mainsheet has seen many terrific feature articles written by our members and the local fleets.

Etymology: back-formation from kudos (taken as a plural)
Date: 1926

2 : COMPLIMENT, PRAISE <to all three should go some kind of special kudo for refusing to succumb -- Al Hine>
usage Some commentators hold that since kudos is a singular word it cannot be used as a plural and that the word kudo is impossible. But kudo does exist; it is simply one of the most recent words created by back-formation from another word misunderstood as a plural. Kudos was introduced into English in the 19th century; it was used in contexts where a reader unfamiliar with Greek could not be sure whether it was singular or plural. By the 1920s it began to appear as a plural, and about 25 years later kudo began to appear. It may have begun as a misunderstanding, but then so did cherry and pea.

I have to agree with Bill on this one. He was talking to Ed about being a fleet at the 2003 Nationals in June. His club was the great host for that event. IMO the biggest delay for Don's package was the 1 or 2 people that objected to the first election of Officers. If that wouldn't of happened all of this would have been done 2 months ago.

Brian,
As you know Ed had already said he would step down BEFORE last year’s regatta. So if Bill had spoken to Ed about a fleet at the regatta it should have been obvious that Ed could no longer help Bill start a fleet. There was no provision for an election till much later (ED should have held elections when he knew he was stepping down) and the delay in this election was procedural and correct, it opened up the nominations to the entire membership and changed the out come for better.
