Can anyone tell me if this transom cutout for an outboard engine is a production/factory feature of a Catalina27, or an owner mod ?

JM, your photo needs to be uploaded to an online photo service such as Shutterfly or YahooPhotos in order to post it here.

If the cutout is an outboard locker at the transom and includes a bench lid cover, then it is the factory standard on the C27.

Hi JM,

My 1981 Cat 27 had the cutout right in the center of the transom. It was a factory feature.

They switched to a bracket in the early 1980's. Like maybe 83 or 84.

I liked the cutout because it ventilated that huge gas locker and centered the weight of the engine.

It might be a liability when sailing downwind in a following sea. Maybe thats why they switched to the bracket.
