We're about to close on a 2000 WK which will be delivered to the marina in late April/early May depending on when the ice leaves the lake. As I've never before set up a sailboat larger than 16 feet, what do I need to know about commissioning this vessel? I've been in touch with a man who sets up a number of boats (including a few Catalinas) every spring, but no 250s; are there any setup details particular to this boat I should talk with him about? Any common mistakes to watch for?
Being a C25 owner, I don't know of any C250 specific issues that need to be addressed upon launching, but I've found that basically most boats are pretty much the same when launching...set the rigging, mount the engine and rudder, and then add water.
I would check out the C250 Owner's Manual that is on this website. It has a lot of good info on stepping the mast and also a commissioning checklist.
If you can get the owners manual for the 2000 C250 you just purchased now do so. It has a few good checklists in it, one of them is pre-launch. If you get the manual now and read over it you will be well prepared when April comes. If you can’t get it the link Don provided will help, that manual is a little old and I don’t think it covers the wing keel. But other than that it should be close to the same.
