I'm close to doing almost exactly this, running a FT-100 and FC-20 combo. Whichever hits the air first gets bragging rights.
I helped a fellow about three slips away check his Icom HF SSB rig the other day.. he's got a 51' Morga

I understand the lines would still be interlocked if the insulator broke, I was just thinking of the sudden slack appearing in the stay. Probably a lot of worry for nothing... I do that a lot!

Thanks for the info folks! I did not know that if the insulators failed, the backstay would stay in position - that is GOOD news! I am in the process of ordering insulators, and will have them swaged on. I will then mount the antenna tuner (Icom AH-4) a

I too will be putting a rig on board. I was thinking of a short vertical (still searching for plans) , but I think I will put that extra backstay just in case. Would it be a good idea to attach the ground to the winch of the swing keel? Ve2esn

Certainly you need the best ground available. I can't imagine going to the winch, and therefore through the cable to the swing keel will be adequate (think about all the crud in the path, and the way the cable attaches to the keel).
